NLP, is the abbreviated version for Neuro Linguistic Programming. It was developed by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in 1970's and is basically a behavioural science which is now being extensively used by NLP experts to help individuals and professionals excel in various facets of their lives. Being a model of behavioural science NLP largely depends on human experiences and pays close attention to how these experiences influence human behaviour. NLP not only models this human behaviour but also tries to replicate it in others. The use of NLP encompasses various forms of human interaction including motivation, memory, communication, relationships and behavioural patterns. NLP gets used here to model this human interaction. And perhaps for this reason NLP sometimes has been termed as "the science of human excellence!" NLP training can be helpful to those who aspire to widen the horizon of their power of communication with others. NLP techniques and tools are very helpful to those who are associated with business, sales and marketing, human resources and management, education and training, performance and meditation. Today NLP has entered almost into every walk of life. Apart from being helpful at the outer level of human behaviour, NLP also turns to the unconscious behaviour. Our habits and behaviour patterns work at the unconscious level. NLP comes here to help realize and alter the unconscious behaviour to our advantage. NLP helps us to look into how information is processed and stored in our minds and how the change in our behaviour and feelings takes place. NLP equips us with the tool to realize the working of inner consciousness, enable us to make some necessary changes in us and can help the others to do the same. In other words, NLP gets you acquainted with working of your brain. For this particular reason, NLP finds its place in most of the personal development courses, coaching and other training programs. NLP has now entered into everything and also creating a lot of confusion too. There are some differing users of NLP who hold diverse point of views. Some call it revolutionary whereas some denounce it by stating it as a pseudo-science. NLP can be risky if one can use it unwisely. Some less scrupulous users of NLP worship it to be beneficial as a sales tool for manipulating nave buyers. It can not be denied that extraordinary benefits can be gained from proper use of NLP technique. The wide use of NLP in teaching, self-help and corporate environments makes it worth understanding. We have to figure out how to use it for our own benefit and that of the clients. We do not recommend that NLP is a quick-fix solution for any issue and every claim made by NLP proponents or trainers should be accepted at face value. NLP is generally taught in an accelerated manner using direct examples and hands-on experiential training. The best way to learn NLP is to experience it directly by working with an accredited NLP Practitioner. However, you can also consider opting for some pre-study material like books or DVDs that can give you proper idea about NLP and its application.
