Offshore Legal: How to open an offshore bank account

By: Doug Swiferin

Two main methods exist for opening an offshore bank account.

One way is to actually travel to the offshore banking tax haven country and physically walk into the bank. Unlike North America, many offshore banks require an introduction. Your paperwork will likely be accepted, but for some unknown reason your application will not be approved.

The smartest way to open an offshore banking account is through an lawyer who is an expert in offshore legal matters. When you consider the cost of a flight and hotel bills, it is actually a cheaper option.

Beware: Some law firms charge as much as $50,000 for what an honest law firm charges only $2,000. (Which is the standard price for an offshore company and bank account.)

You should be cautious if you are not required to provide ID. This might seem to have advantages, but experience has shown, time and again, that this path leads to many tears. Providing documentation to the law firm who is creating your offshore company will not compromise your banking security.
