In life, men measure success by obtaining stuff. When I was a kid, it was the silver blue bicycle placed in the display corner in the store. When pimples and raging hormones hit, it was the cheerleaders or simply any girls an adolescent could get his hands on. In college, gadgets started to become a degree of status. Apparently, the first person who has the highest memory notebook or the smallest Ipod was the coolest among all. However, all of this became a sideline once men hit the working world. Once the cash starts rolling into our bank accounts, success was thrown into the world of cars and all the girls would go for those with 2 door sports car rather than a station wagon. I was blessed that by the time I was 28, I have managed to afford a car. Things could not have gone better as I had the girl of my dreams as a girlfriend. The blessing does not stopped there. I also have finally made the biggest purchase of my life. A house. It was obvious that I do not want to live in my parents house since I too would want a place of my own. Besides, I am a grown man. A grown man needs a castle of his own to take care of. However, I have learnt a valuable lesson from the order of my acquisitions. It was probably best if the house came first before the girlfriend. I had long dreamed of an outdoor housewarming party. Fresh air and sunshine is not a bad addition to a party after all. Besides, I had the assurance that the interior part of my house is safe from any spillage or any form of discomfort that may come out of anyone’s mouth. Another important things is that I can spare the risk of finding someone else getting comfortable in my bedroom. After telling Cindy my idea, she crossed her brow and reminded me that some people may not appreciate my plan. Some would be afraid of sunburn while unpredictable weather forecasts may jeopardize my plans. In the end, we agreed to add a patio umbrella to our shopping lists. After shopping for meat and barbeque sauce, we made a stop at the household department. I had no idea that there are just so many outdoor umbrellas to choose from. The main attraction of the floor was a ten foot wide umbrella that was in hot pink. My girlfriend looked as if she was going to cry tears of joy when she saw the giant umbrella. It was very emotional for her since the color matched the pale pink shoe rack perfectly. Nothing could change my mind about not getting this hot pink umbrella. Fortunately I won and we carried on looking. We were lucky enough to have Bert take us through the jungle of umbrella. Bert, being an expert of umbrella, had given us insights on every one of the umbrellas. One thing I noticed was most of the umbrella canvas is made of Sunbrella® material which apparently was one of the best materials. This material had a reputation of being fade resistant; the color and pattern stays the same for a long period of time even after exposure years of exposure to the rain and sun. We were taken to see other more advance umbrellas that are equipped with the latest technologies. From lighting equipped to speakers attach, these umbrellas are head turners. I find umbrellas with attached sound system really impressive so I was about to make a swift decision in purchasing one when my girlfriend reminded me that we have that department covered when we purchased the home theater. After spending a good few hours browsing and getting insights from Bert, we finally settled on a bright red nine foot wide umbrella. We decided to give the speaker or lighting a miss but we didn’t settle for anything less than the Sunbrella® material. Well, i think I have made a wise decision and I know for a fact that Johnathan Soon, a guy with bright red patio umbrella sounds much more comforting than Johnathan Soon and hot pink umbrella!
