Bachelorette Parties: At Home Bachelorette Parties

By: Anna J Allard

What makes a great bachelorette party? Some girls say it is going out to bars, flirting with guys, and drinking shots all night long. Other girls, especially slightly older brides, find that they aren't looking for a situation that will only make them feel uncomfortable.

How do you start your party off right?

First, there are no set rules for bachelorette party planning. There are, however, several key elements that make a bachelorette party a success. The first step is to determine the expectations of the bride. Does she want to stay in? Does she want to invite twenty girls, or only six? Does she have a restaurant she wants to visit, a concert she'd like to go to, or would she prefer an at home gathering?

Other keys to keeping a bachelorette party at a low price tag is to have an at home party. You can buy alcohol cheaper at a liquor store than paying for drinks in a bar. Food can be as simple as ordering pizzas and baking some cookies. Decorations can also be low cost. You can make a room really sparkle with just some balloons and a few banners, anything that signifies "bachelorette party!" A color as the theme helps keep decorating a low cost endeavor. You can choose pink or red, for example, and use streamers and balloons to decorate.

Another low key bachelorette party game is a game to determine how well each guest knows the bride. Before the party, ask the bride-to-be a series of questions, you can ask her fianc the same questions as well. Then, ask the questions to the party guests, and see who can get the highest number correct. Questions can be simple, like "what is the bride's favorite color," can relate to the couple's relationship, "where did the bride and groom go on their first date," or can be a bit bawdier. The game can be completely tailored to suit your party, with simpler questions if the group knows the bride from different areas of her life, to more intense or naughty questions if the party guests are all very close friends.

Another key to an at-home party is making sure there are no men allowed! Send your boyfriend or husband out for the night to make sure you have the house to yourself. Or, ideally, plan the bachelorette party for the same night as the bachelor party when the guys are busy themselves. Next, plan great food. A bachelorette party should feel indulgent, so make sure you are providing good snacks, or to keep costs down, make it a potluck party. Have each girl bring a favorite dish and you can all get together, snack, and play bachelorette party games!

As for party favors, those too can be inexpensive, like the large lollipop rings shaped like diamond rings. Or, nail polish for each girl to use when giving herself a pedicure and manicure during the course of the evening. These items are girl, fun, and very cheap as they can be bought at any discount store.

Whatever you do for your bachelorette party, remember that the key to a great party is the love you put into it and the friends you have gathered.
